How to soften hardened fondant
U
Sweet Wise Response
There are several factors that affect how to answer this question and it also depends on the type of fondant. Some brands cannot be "repaired" while others are easy to fix. If your fondant air dried and became hard, you might be able to fix by kneading in some shortening. If it air dried too much, you won't be able to bring it back to a usable consistency.
If your fondant is "chocolate" based, a little careful warming in the microwave will soften it right up.
