Why is THE MAT FOOD SAFE and Why Should I CARE?
About THE MAT.... similar plastic or vinyl products are petroleum based and contain phthalates that are used as a plasticizer.

Both are known to create health problems and concentrations of these can build in the body over time. Most if not all similar plastic products use petroleum oil and contain phthalates and heavy metals like mercury and lead. If you unroll similar plastic products and smell the plastic, you'll smell a strong chemical or petroleum order. If you smell THE MAT in comparison, you'll notice a nice clean smell similar to plastic food wraps.

We chose to have THE MAT manufactured in US so we could be absolutely certain that THE MAT is made of food safe materials and manufactured in a food safe environment.

THE MAT is made with soybean oil and other food safe components that are listed as food safe in Code of Federal Regulations. The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) is the codification of the general and permanent rules published in the Federal Register by the executive departments and agencies of the United States Federal Government. Title 21 Sections 174 - 182 is the section of the CFR that pertains to materials and substances that are determined to be food safe.

I have had the Mat for 9 months and wouldnt use anything else..I recommend it all the time. I am back today to pre-order the new pro. If you are not using this you are wasting your time and time is money. If you are hesitating to order-Don't. It will be one of your most favorite tools in decorating.

I love THE MAT as well but I have one problem....
I've used the mat 3-4 times. I seasoned it the first time as on the video. Yet my home-made fondant sticks each time. (Its pliable but not sticky and I am using the recipe with glycerin and gelatin). I seasoned it again after washing it from the sticking fondant, yet it still sticks. Any suggestions?

Could be a couple things causing a tough time for you. First… different recipes all have unique characteristics depending on the ingredients. We have found that all fondants work well on THE MAT but some recipes require a little tweaking. If your fondant is sticking to THE MAT, just knead in a little extra confectioners’ sugar. I believe some recipes anticipate people rolling out fondant the old fashioned way by dusting their countertop which is really just the same as kneading in additional dry ingredients.

If your fondant stuck to THE MAT such that you had to wash and re-season, you really need to make sure you let THE MAT completely air dry before re-seasoning. If there is any moisture on THE MAT regardless of how much confectioners you knead, the fondant will stick. About re-seasoning… The seasoning process is only to keep THE MAT from sticking to itself so you’ll be the best judge on whether or not to re-season.

Before you start to roll out your fondant, take a small piece and roll it out to about the size of your palm and check to see if it peels off easily. If not you’ll need to add additional confectioners’ sugar.

Another factor that could contribute to fondant sticking to THE MAT, is if you’re using a lot of color, especially gel paste or water/alcohol based colors. Love this product!
I love this product but I should emphasize that watching the video is more important than many realize especially how to release the fondant. I have never had another problem since. I will probably purchase another with the new guides. Thank you Sweetwise!!!

loved at first NOT NOW
It was great at first and the mat developed "stretch marks" I can't use it now, only able to use it for a few cakes so it was a totlal waste of money. It had never been folded. I was really surprised that Sweet Wise did not stand behind the product more.

Sweet Wise Response - Sweet Wise absolutely does stand behind this product. We mostly receive thank you letters for providing such a great product. However, for the few complaints we do receive, we are always responsive and we always try to do what is right for our customers.

We have heard this complaint from 4 or 5 users out of tens of thousands of units sold. We were not able replicate this problem on our own and after an extensive interview of the first couple users to report this problem, we were not able to identify any isolated or contributing factors.

THE MATs used in our classroom receive hundreds of uses by people of all shapes and sizes from petite 10 year old girls to 200 lb grown men and we have never seen this problem in our classroom

Just to be safe through, over a year ago, we increased the thickness of the material about 10% and we increased the stiffness a little more than 10%.

I LOVE "The Mat"!! Wish I had found it sooner!
Can I just say HOW GREAT "THE MAT" is!!! I just used it and I Love It.........probably as much as everyone else does!!! I had been thinking that someone should invent a way to help with the application of fondant. Didn't realize that your product was already out there. So glad I found it and YOUR Video is also perfect and correct! I had to try and see if I could hold up the mat with the fondant on it too!! It worked just as in your video. It makes me think...."Why didn't I think of that"!! lol I've covered cakes in fondant but started to shy away from it and would just use pieces on buttercream. BUT now "The Mat" has given me the confidence I needed and EXCELLENT results! I am very excited just knowing I can use fondant anytime I want and don't have to fret over it! Love the way and how easily it worked! So very, very happy :)

Awesome product
This product is beyond comparison. It makes working with fondant a breeze. I had my first wedding cake to do (3 layers). I started out with the Wilton mat and it wasn't big enough and it just had issues. Out of frustration I went online to the wilton discussion forums and someone mentioned The Mat. I took a chance and bought it (I rarely buy things online); The Mat arrived quickly and after watching the video on youtube for the fourth time, I gave it a shot... OH MY GOODNESS. It was SO easy to use and the fondant rolled out so beautifully and it gave my cake a really professional look and feel. It is by far the best buy of 2011 for me! I can't recommend it highly enough!
